Tested in the lab, coloured for the future: Stilla expands its circular impact

At Stilla, circularity and the smart reuse of materials are at the heart of everything we do. Our ambition goes far: we are building a roadmap towards a 100% circular solution for every acoustic need. But just as important is our focus on sustainability. For us, this means not only reusing materials, but also creating products with a maximum lifespan and a timeless design. Recently, we took a major and crucial step towards saving even more panels from ending up in landfill. And to achieve this, we headed to the laboratory.

Into the lab with a mission: refurbishment without compromising quality

As experienced acoustic experts, "measuring is knowing" is our guiding principle. To save even more panels from landfill, we developed new refurbishment techniques. These concern existing panels that we were previously unable to reuse because of their appearance. However, refurbishing these panels carried a risk: it could potentially reduce their sound absorption capacity and therefore their quality. It was essential for us to determine whether the refurbishment process would affect the functionality of the panels.

To prove this beyond doubt, we turned to Buildwise, the independent research organisation widely supported by the construction sector. In its specialised acoustic laboratory, experts replicate real-life conditions according to strict international standards in order to accurately measure reverberation and sound absorption.

The official test reports now confirm what we hoped for: refurbishing panels using our newly developed technique has absolutely no negative impact on their acoustic performance. The foundation remains sound, and the final product performs just as effectively as before.

More panels saved, more design options for you

These test results represent an important breakthrough. They mean that from now on, we can save even more panels from landfill.

But there is more. In the past, our recovered panels were generally standard white. Thanks to the successful testing of our new refurbishment techniques, we can now give panels a complete visual transformation without sacrificing effectiveness.

In addition to maximising circular impact, we can now offer extensive design options. We can deliver panels in virtually any colour, fully tailored to our customers’ preferences and feedback. Sustainability and aesthetics now go hand in hand.

The successful testing of our refurbished panels marks a significant milestone, but we remain ambitious.
